I only can say that when coming to Riga from Mexico City, my suitcase appeared on the band at the airport completely ripped from the bottom, so I lost a lot of things (curiously, electronic things, not wear so far...anyway. I think this could happen anywhere. I am from Mexico...here in Riga I feel SO SAFE. I love this country where I moved recently for personal reasons. I agree: Riga is beatufil. The countryside too. Women? :))

I think it is less likely this happened in Riga than elsewhere, just because your luggage is hanging around for less time there than in other places. You should always keep valuables with you anyway.
