What are you talking about? Barely anyone learns japanese or romanian.

Maybe instead of expecting people to speak english or something. You could practice the basics of the language of the country you plan to visit. Traveling around the world and just expecting everyone to speak english is an extremely elitist way of thinking. ("Oh why bother learning the language, INSTEAD THE WHOLE COUNTRY should learn MINE")

They are about 16-17 years old, when they get the first language exam in english or in german or other (not just europian language, but asian)
In highschools the student have to learn two foreign language. I learnt english and german, but my sister learn english and french :)I think you don't know the truth about the hungarian education :)

Hungary was the part of the Soviet area and the elderly people can speak only russian because of it.(as my parents and grandparents) It was the main foreign language for long time. The english wasn't so important in the hungarian schools as nowdays. Look! The little children learn english already in the preschools, before they can write down the hungarian words.

Its problem in all middle europian country also...not only in Slovakia and HUngary...maybe in your homeland too...
CMarcsi20 (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
Its' not the truth in my oppinion. The students in Hungary can't get diploma without language exam. (need at least one)I was in Slovakia (in Bratislava or Pozsony) but nobody speak english in the streets, only foreigns. Maybe this is a big problem also there. A new generations can speak english in my homeland and the elderly people try to learn. The english is one of the most important subject in the schools.(almost important as the hungarian)
